Canossian
Sisters at Richmond, B.C. are
Sisters of the Congregation of Canossian Daughters of Charity,
founded by St. Magdalen of Canossa in 1808 in Verona, Italy. St.
Madalen is one of only a few foundresses who established communities for
women and men as well as a lay apostolate. |
Born into a noble family
in Verona in 1774 Magdalen, Marchioness of Canossa left the comforts
of her luxurious home to serve the poor and marginalized in her
hometown. She opened a home at an old monastery to house and teach
women and children. Elsewhere, the Canossian Sisters work in Australia,
Africa, Asia, Europe and North and South America. |
