Missions
This is not a “Sunday School” or a “Junior Liturgy” or a “babysitting service”.
As the name spells out, we gather with children (4 to 8 years old) to celebrate the Liturgy of the Word, the first part of the Mass.
We do not directly teach the catechism or babysit so parents can attend the Mass with proper attention. This is a liturgy.
We follow the same liturgy as the grownups do but in children’s language and with their active participation. It is about worship and celebration of the Word of God.
All learning here takes place through the liturgical prayer and worship.
Background
We are a group of catechists united in a common purpose of faith, service, and be an important part of our liturgy.
The English and Cantonese ones are formed in 2004, with the Mandarin speaking ones set up 2011.
Every three months/as needed the Presiders meet with the Coordinator.
Annually, every Presider receives training and attend Workshops organized by the Archdiocese of Vancouver.
Membership
All practising Catholics over 18 are eligible, and with the approval of the Pastor, Fr Richard Au.
LEADERS of the Liturgy of the Word with Children are all volunteers who are Ministers of the Word. We form a united force to serve our Parish to perform THE LITURGY OF THE WORD WITH CHILDREN
- The Presider invites the children and they will receive prayer the Lectionary with the blessing of the priest
- Procession with the Lectionary to the separate place of worship
- First Reading
- Responsorial Psalm
- Gospel Acclamation
- Proclamation of the Gospel
- Homiletical Reflection
- Profession of Faith
- Prayer of the Faithful/Universal Prayer
- Return to the church and join the Assembly.
We are committed to our parish community by making sure that we are present and on time to serve at Mass when scheduled.
LWC Presider training is provided by the present Coordinator, Sr. Elisa Grignoli, and the Archdiocese of Vancouver LWC Office.
