Dear Reverend Fathers, Deacons and parish staff,
Yesterday we received greater clarity from the Provincial Health Office regarding vaccination requirements for non-worship meetings, programs and events at parishes. The information below is what we can tell you as of today. In simplest terms, masks are required for all indoor events, meetings and programs (Archdiocesan requirement) and proof of vaccination is generally not.
It's important to note that the overall aim of the vaccination program is the encouragement of greater vaccination participation and is much less a measure for direct health protection.
All worship services (and receptions following services - like the parish hall or basement) are exempt from the requirement for proof of vaccination. In addition, any public meetings held in faith-based settings that have a worship component (such as youth groups and parish meetings, etc), are also exempt from the proof of vaccination requirement. However, a separate organized event such as a reception, or other event that does not have a worship component, does require attendees to provide proof of vaccination if it has more than 50 people attending.
As an example, the upcoming Upper Room event has no vaccine requirement for any attendees or staff since it has a worship component (prayer, worship music, Mass, etc). Anyone can register for the Upper Room here.
Here are some specifics:
Proof of Vaccination
There is NO requirement for proof of vaccination for any of the following:
Any indoor organized events with less than 50 people
(this will likely suffice for 90% of events at parishes)
Pastoral Council Meetings
CWL and KofC meetings
Alpha and Discovery programs
Faith Studies programs
Youth Groups and activities
Indoor youth recreational sport for people 19 years or younger
Various meetings with less than 50 people
There IS a requirement for proof of vaccination for the following:
Social gathering events with 50 or more people. For example: wedding receptions or funeral receptions (that are not immediately following the funeral) or organized parties and social events.
Masks are required for ALL indoor events at parish facilities, including Mass, meetings, PREP, youth events, etc, except for:
People with health conditions or with physical, cognitive or mental impairments who cannot wear one
People who cannot remove a mask on their own
Children under the age of 12
People who need to remove their masks to communicate due to another person's hearing impairment
