Mission
The mission of the youth group is:
- To provide a prayerful environment for the youth where they can grow close in friendship with each other and with God.
- To conduct engaging talks and activities that can help them be better equipped to evangelize through both words and action.
- To encourage our youth to be more active in parish roles.
Background
CMYPC is the official English youth group of Canadian Martyrs parish, and we are also under the umbrella of the English prayer group, the Canadian Martyrs Prayer Community (CMPC). When the prayer group was first established in 2001, the youth group didn't exist, since the children of the families that founded the group were still too young. While the parents met, their children "congregated" in another room and did their own activities, including watching movies and playing "The Amazing Race". After the youth group was established in the mid-2000s, many of these activities have become "youth group staples", although they're now tailored towards the average age of our youth group members.
During our regular youth group meetings, we start off with praise and worship, dinner, and fellowship, and then we move on to our main activity - typically a Catholic video series, Scripture discussion, and/or a game (with prizes!). Outside of these meetings, we hold retreats, volunteer in soup kitchens, watch and make movies, and take on various other fellowship activities.

Membership
In general, our youth group is open to all persons aged 13 - 30. We regularly encourage new confirmands to join, as one way to not only continue their study of the faith, but also put it into practice.

Meeting time
Before the pandemic, our regular meeting date was every second and fourth Saturday of each month, from 7:30 pm to 10:00 pm in one of the rooms in the parish. This will also be our meeting time once the pandemic is over. Note that the youth meet at the same date and time as the adults from the prayer group; however, the youth meet in a separate room with separate activities, with a few exceptions (e.g., joint praise and worship and joint talks).
During the pandemic, we meet virtually every second and fourth Saturday of each month, from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm. Please contact us for the virtual meeting link.
